Many visitors to New Orleans celebrate, during the holiday season, the Reveillon Dinners. It began by the creoles in the 1800's, and started with a big family meal after returning from midnight mass. The menu included chicken gumbo, pies, soups, desserts, brandy and coffee. The name "reveillon" means "awakening" in the original New Orleans' french creole language. With a little tweeking throughout the years the tradition has since been picked up by a few dozen New Orleans restaurants for all to partake. |
